Current practice

Ms. Déborah Stephenson focuses her practice on civil litigation, family law, and human rights law, both before the courts and in amicable settlements. She will carefully explain your options regarding your divorce or separation, the division of your property, child custody, alimony, parental authority, and parental union.

She will also advise you on matters of adoption, paternity recognition, name or gender change, guardianship, and contesting wills. With thoroughness, rigor, and honesty, she will guide you toward a sound resolution of your dispute.

Additionally, Ms. Déborah Stephenson has a wide range of expertise. She appears before the various divisions of the Superior Court and the Court of Quebec, in Gatineau and throughout the Outaouais region. She can represent you in your family or human rights disputes in Mont-Laurier, Labelle, Pontiac, Campbell’s Bay, Maniwaki, and more! Biographical note

Ms. Déborah Stephenson graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2019, simultaneously obtaining a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of International Development and Globalization. In addition to scholarships recognizing her academic excellence and appearing on the Dean’s List, she received awards at the 2019 National Model United Nations in New York, which recognized the quality of her writing. In addition, she received a “Maillet Pro Bono” award from her peers, recognizing the guidance, availability, and active listening she demonstrated as Program Coordinator for Pro Bono Students Canada.

Today, she continues to put these same written and public speaking skills, her active listening skills and her conflict resolution mindset to good use for the benefit of her clients.

Committing to your community

Ms. Déborah Stephenson has the ambition to give back to those around her, which is why since 2022 she has been a mentor for the next generation of lawyers with the Black Law Students’ Association of the University of Ottawa and the Professional Development Centre of the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Civil Law.

In addition, to maintain a close connection with her roots in access to justice, she is involved as a volunteer lawyer with the JuriPop Ephemeral Legal Clinic and the Department of Law at the Université du Québec en Outaouais with the aim of offering free legal consultations.
